Hyderabad Metro History

The idea of establishing a metro system in Hyderabad was first proposed in 2003 to address the growing city’s traffic congestion and transportation needs. The project officially began on November 29, 2017, inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, and the Chief Minister of Telangana, Shri K. Chandrashekar Rao, at the Miyapur Metro Station.

Implemented by Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL), a public-private partnership between the Government of Telangana and L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited (LTMRHL), a subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro Limited, the first phase included the Red Line and the Blue Line. The Red Line runs from Miyapur to LB Nagar, while the Blue Line connects Nagole to Raidurg.
